About Amavasya –

Amavasya, also known as the “New Moon” or “No Moon” day, is an important day in the Hindu calendar. It marks the end of one lunar month and the beginning of another. On this day, the moon is not visible in the sky, and it is believed to be a time of transition and new beginnings.

Amavasya is not considered to be an auspicious day for performing religious rituals and ceremonies. It is believed that performing these rituals on Amavasya will not brings blessings and prosperity. 

Many people visit temples, perform puja, and offer prayers to the gods and goddesses on this day. It is also an important day for performing ancestor worship and performing rituals for the dead.

Amavasya is also not considered to be an auspicious day for starting new ventures, such as buying a new house, car, or starting a new business.

Types of Amavasya

There are several types of Amavasya, each with its own significance and importance in Hinduism. Some of the main types of Amavasya are:

Shradh Amavasya:

This Amavasya is dedicated to the ancestors and is considered to be an auspicious day for performing rituals for the dead. It is believed that performing these rituals on this day helps to bring peace to the souls of the ancestors.

Mahalaya Amavasya:

This Amavasya is considered to be the most significant Amavasya in the Bengali calendar. It is the first day of the Durga Puja festival and is celebrated as the day when Lord Vishnu sent Durga to defeat the demon Mahishasura.

Pitru Amavasya:

This Amavasya is also dedicated to ancestors and is considered to be an auspicious day for performing rituals for the dead. It is believed that performing these rituals on this day helps to bring peace to the souls of the ancestors.

Maha Amavasya:

This is the Amavasya that occurs only once in every 19 years, it is considered to be the most significant Amavasya among all the Amavasya .

Solar Eclipse Amavasya:

This Amavasya is considered to be particularly significant as it occurs during a solar eclipse. It is believed that performing religious rituals on this day brings even more blessings and prosperity.

Lunar Eclipse Amavasya:

This Amavasya is considered to be particularly significant as it occurs during a lunar eclipse. It is believed that performing religious rituals on this day brings even more blessings and prosperity.
